Biographical / Historical
S Subramanya is an ornithologist and an entomologist. He worked as a senior faculty in agricultural entomology at the University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore till his retirement in 2018. Under Dr. Salim Ali, Subramanya worked on the bird migration project at Point Calimere, Bharatpur and Harike. He worked on birds in agricultural ecosystems during his PhD and went on to study entomology. Subramanya’s contributions to ornithology include compiled details on heronries in India, surveys on several enigmatic bird species in southern India, including the Yellow-throated Bulbul and Broad-tailed Grassbird, establishment of the Ramadevarabetta Vulture Sanctuary at Ramnagara to save the habitat of the critically endangered Indian Vulture and getting GKVK Campus declared as a Biodiversity Heritage Site.
