The accession consists of three booklets given by S Subramanya. The first booklet is a English to Kannada glossary of Entomology. The second booklet is a biography of Dr. Magadi Puttarudraiah. The third booklet is a collection of research abstracts that were discussed in Friday Group organized by students of the University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore.

Dispostion

The accession will be transferred to a new “SD-003-Small Donations-Agricultural Sciences” where the material will be kept under the second series, which will be titled “S Subramanya Papers”. The series consists of one sub-series titled “UAS Publications” and contains three booklets, two in Kannada and one in English. The booklets in Kannada are related to entomology and the booklet in English is a publication of a meeting where many research topics were discussed.

This collection draws from materials related to S Subramanya. The material was brought in by Shyamal and received by Anjali J R on 15 September 2023. S Subramanya is a scientist working in the fields of ornithology and entomology. He pursued important research in ornithology on topics such as birds in agricultural ecosystems, bird migrations, heronries in India and so on. He has also conducted surveys on several enigmatic bird species in southern India and has played a key role in the establishment of the Ramadevarabetta Vulture Sanctuary at Ramnagara and getting GKVK Campus declared as a biodiversity Heritage site. He worked as a senior faculty at the University of Agricultural sciences in agricultural entomology till his retirement in 2018.

The S Subramanya donation forms part of the archive's goal to collect material related to the history of agricultural sciences and entomology in the country.
