Description
Neurobiology of Drosophila- 'chromosome walking' methods appear to be used: it was found that closely related flight muscles develop differently, collaboration with W.Chia at University of Singapore for research on gustation. Cloned cDNA work in collaboration with Caltech and U.C.Berkeley, olfaction; Synaptic Biology- anaesthetics studied by K.S.Krishnan on work leave (work with A.H.Nash); Neuroanatomy Drosophila-sensory structures on the leg, peripheral synapse present in femoral segment-earlier these were only observed in arachnids; Molecular biology-(Moss) auxin perception, nitrate reductase, G-protein, Protein kinase, chloronema cells; Drosophila oncogenes; Glycolysis-(Yeast-S. Cerevisiae) PFK2; Malarial Parasite-(P. falciparum, P. vivax, P.knowlesi, rabbit and mice and Drosophila models) CS gene; Protein folding- Barstar studies; Highlights : O.Siddiqi-D.Sc., Banaras Hindu University; Images of Inebriometer; President of German SFSC, German Embassy visited the Laboratory; Collaboration with S. Celniker at Caltech and M.J.Palazzolo at U.C.Berkeley; Mention of Centre for Molecular Biology by TIFR at Bangalore at IISC campus, Winter workshop was organised with professors from different Universities; O.Siddiqi visited several meetings outside India; K.VijayRaghavan visited Caltech and Singapore University, V.Rodrigues visited Singapore University, J. Udgaonkar awarded Rockefeller Foundation Fellowship; Summary : Studies on protein folding were begun, the effect of anaesthetics were also studied in the fruit fly, a winter workshop was organised that received international patronage, plans for a section dedicated to molecular biology at Bangalore was started.
