Description
Drosophila neurobiology- chemosensory and neural pathways identified, olf E gene characterisation was begun; Drosophila neuroanatomy- Golgi silver impregnation used for neural fibre identification, horseradish peroxide markers used, pattern of flight muscles were studied, cDNA collaboration with Caltech; Cell Differentiation-(F. hygrometrica-moss)auxin sensitivity, Nitrate reductase immunoassay, Drosophila oncogenes were studied using E.coli, Saccharomyces cerevisiae(a type of yeast) was used for glycolytic studies, Phosphofructokinase antigen clones were raised in rabbits,; Malarial studies- Similarities in the Gujarat and African antigenic profile, P.knowlesi antigens being cloned for CS antigen; Highlights : O.Siddiqi-Birla Smarak Kosh National Award; Images of Drosophila; Collaboration with M.Palazzola and S.Celniker at Caltech; Summary : Neurobiology became a keen field of study with the fruit fly as model, no direct studies on the human nervous system were carried out since the collaboration with AIIMS in '84, Cancer studies were also carried out.
