Description

Perception of salts by Drosophila were studied, distinct receptor sites were found; two genes coding for enzyme pyruvate decarboxylase were found, one of them was successfully cloned; neurons were being labelled using horseradish peroxide or cobalt(II) ; molecular analysis of two muscle mutants were initiated; cDNA cloning was done in collaboration with M.A.Palazzo and S.Celniker at Caltech; plant hormone studies using moss (F. hygrometrica); Peptide mapping comparing human and Drosophila protein; monkey and human malarial parasite studies, study of CS protein in P.knowlesi; Highlights : Images of Drosophila; various talks and conferences were attended by the faculty; Summary : Research moved to more practical grounds as shown by the malarial studies carried out, cloning and mutational studies became more common.
