Description

Neurobiological studies of Drosophila were focused on; Studies focusing on cell differentiation in Moss, Zebra fish and slime molds (Dictyostelium discoideum) were conducted; Mutation found in bithorax complexes was identified; Antibody that functions as female Drosophila antenna marker was identified; Work done in the laboratory of E.Buchner at the Max-Planck Institute on Olfactory centres was followed up on; A mutation involved in the metathoracic transformation resembling that reported by Lewis in 1960 was found; social behaviour in Dictyostelium was concluded to be support for group selection functioning as an evolutionary strategy; Highlights : O.Siddiqi- President of Indian Academy of Sciences; Images of Drosophila antenna section; Images of zebrafish antigen; New photomicrographic methods adapted to take photographs of microscopic specimens-R.N.Singh; Dr Z.Lobo was on sabbatical from July to December at Washington University, Seattle; P.K.Maitra spent three months at University College, Cardiff, U.K.; Summary : Behavioural studies on certain animal groups which shows a slight deviation from the usual molecular biological work, Zebrafish as a model appears to have been discontinued, new methods were adapted to help in photographing microscopic specimens.
