Biographical / Historical
Science Today was a monthly English-language popular science magazine in India between the 1960s and 1990s. It was published by the publishers of Times of India (Bennett, Coleman and Co. Ltd) and was considered one of India's best science magazines for the public. It was led by Surendr Jha and Pradip Paul who were its editor and assistant editor respectively. Jha is said to developed the format of the magazine, and according to a reflection by a colleague, Rex D'Rozario, Jha "networked with scientists in laboratories across India to build up a stable of scientist-writers, many of whom couldn’t write for a popular audience, their contributions reading more like quasi-research papers." (Reference: https://www.arvindguptatoys.com/arvindgupta/rex-science-history.pdf). The first issue came out in the mid 1960s (ca 1966). Science Today morphed into a magazine titled 2001 in the late 1980s and early 1990s, and then discontinued in the mid 1990s.

Arrangement
The intellectual arrangement preserves publication month/year. The collections are on loan at the Archives at NCBS. Series 1 contains available single issues and bound volumes on loan from the St John’s Library in Bangalore, India. Each subsequent series will contain single issues and bound volumes not already present in Series 1, and from other institutions. Sub series within a series is by publishing decade (1971-1980, 1981-1990, and so on). Folders are chronological, arranged by month and year.
Condition Description
Good, except for occasional brittle and fragile issues.
