Scope and Contents

First letter communicates that the Indian Statistical Institute in Calcutta has recently acquired an electronic digital computer, and plans to aquire a second more powerful machine. Requests names of candidates for fundamental research in numerical analysis and to teach a course on the same at the ISI. Second letter notes receipt of Madhava Rao's reply, recommeding his former students, and requests their further particulars. Also mentions Madhava Rao's desire to use ISI's computer to derive theorems in mathematical logic, and notes intention to study problems like matrix multiplication. Third letter expresses an interest in a problem in number theory mentioned by Madhava Rao, invites him to the ISI during the Indian National Science congress session, and promises to speak to P.C. Mahalanobis about computational assistance free of charge.
