This collection contains material related to the life and work of K S Krishnan, a physicist and scientific administrator. The papers have been arranged into nine series - notes and notebooks, scientific research, administration and teaching, talks and writings, photographs, personal and ephemera, correspondence, material related to Krishnan collected by Krishnan family, material about Krishnan collected by D C V Mallik, and Tamil documents - spirituality and literature.

A dark green colored notebook containing details about the experiment carried out by K S Krishnan to observe the scattering of light by different colorless and dust-free liquids. Information about the various frequencies of light, angle and polarisation of light and the filters used to observe the phenomena are given.

Notebook containing lab notes, research notes, and excerpted notes on the following topics: i) Diffraction by an opaque disc and a sphere of same radius. ii) Variation of the effective anisotropy of fluids with temperature. iii) Magnetic double-refraction in liquids.

Contains loose pages of a notebook with lab notes, exercise notes, and research notes regarding K.R. Ramanathan's experiment on the measurement of refractive index in response to electric fields, and of changes in magnetic properties of crystals and molecules.

Loose pages of a notebook containing lab notes and research notes by K S Krishnan were generated during the repetition of K R Ramanathan's fluorescence experiments in dust-free liquids. The entry by K S Krishnan, dated 28 February 1928, describes the 'Raman Scattering Effect' observance for the first time. Portions of the diary after the 28th February entry are lost.

A "Modern Exercise Book" containing excerpted notes, lab notes, and exercise notes about polarisation fields, refractivity, Raman frequencies, scattering and susceptibilities of various chemical compounds. Includes handwritten notes on loose sheets titled 'Pyirdyl derivatives of Cobalbous Chloride - magnetic study'.
