Scope and Contents

The collection holds archival papers, photographs, literacy booklets, and weekly, some prepared by MPSM staff and published by MPSM. The material ranges from the 1960s to 2000s. The material is published in Marathi and Bhil language. The collection is divided into 3 series.

Biographical / Historical

Maharashtra Prabodhan Seva Mandal (MPSM) is a Not-For-Profit Organization under the Bombay Jesuit Management established in 1964. It has been a pioneering rural development institution in Nashik district of Maharashtra, India. Due to recurring famines and rural distress in the 1960s, MPSM evolved to be an organization rooted in justice and development, working consciously for the upliftment and empowerment of resource-poor indigenous and tribal communities in 7 districts of Maharashtra. MPSM’s work has been focused on children’s education, community-led natural resource development, sustainable agriculture, women’s livelihoods, rural collectives, entrepreneurship development. The institution aims to support all its work through in-house research and research collaborations, aiming for grounded strategies and lasting impact.
