Content Description
The archival collection is divided into 3 series.
The first series is Wildlife research and conservation projects. It consists of sub-series:
1) Field research and data collection which contains letters, notes, maps, articles, media clippings and more material collected and/or created by BC Choudhary while working on the Andhra Pradesh Crocodile Conservation Project (APCC) - an initiative by Andhra Pradesh Forest Department and FAO/UNDP to survey states across India to tackle the issue of all three species of Indian crocodiles (Mugger, Estuarine, and Gharial) becoming rare.
2) Research writings and publications, which consist of research notes, drafts, and publications.
study tours, meetings, and symposiums, which consists of notes taken, schedules of meetings and correspondence regarding the meetings and symposia.
The second series, Correspondence, which is arranged chronologically.
The final and third series are Research references and personal collections.
The sub-series in this are:
i) Books and booklets,
ii) project documents and reports,
iii) Souvenirs,
iv) Periodicals,
v) Articles, excerpts, and other references, and
vi) Media Clippings.

Biographical / Historical
B C Choudhury is a Wildlife Biologist whose initiation into the field coincides with the establishment of wildlife as a science in the country. He is known widely for his work as a teacher, conservationist, herpetologist and a wetland resources expert.

"After almost a 30-year-long stint with the Wildlife Institute of India, Dehradun, he retired as a Senior Professor and Scientist āGā in the year 2012. Choudhury is a senior advisor and consultant with some of the leading wildlife conservation and management organizations nationally as well as globally.
In his service term, he has coordinated over half century of national and international projects related to wildlife conservation, habitat and resource management. With the authorship of over 100 publications in peer reviewed journals, technical reports and innumerable chapters in wildlife conservation related books under his name, he has also edited ENVIS publications for many years. Prof Choudhury is a member of over a dozen specialist groups of SSC/IUCN and is on board to various technical/research/executive committees across the world. He has supervised three PhDs, five MPhil and ten MSc dissertations at the Wildlife Institute of India. He holds extensive experience in providing professional training to wildlife managers, biologists and sociologists.
Choudhury is the recipient of Society for Conservation Biology (SCB) Distinguished Service Award 2005 for outstanding contribution to Conservation of Indian Cranes, Sea Turtles and Crocodilians.
He retired as a Professor in 2012 from the Wildlife Institute of India, Dehradun. He has coordinated many national and international projects related to wildlife conservation, habitat and resource management."

The intellectual arrangement strives to preserve the provenance and original order of the papers. Where an original order could not be found, the Archives have applied an order, and folders within the sub-series are arranged usually in chronological or alphabetical order.
