University of Jammu STEM Pamphlets and Papers
Scope and Contents
This collection brings together agricultural leaflets, pamphlets, and research papers published mainly between the 1940s and 1970s. Most were produced by the Directorate of Extension under the Ministry of Food and Agriculture now Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare and by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR). The leaflets were designed for farmers and give practical tips on crop cultivation, soil care, pest control, irrigation, and improved farming tools. They cover a wide range of crops- rice, wheat, maize, pulses, oilseeds, fruits, and even commercial crops like ginger and clove. The research papers add more detailed studies and experimental findings related to these subjects. Together, the collection shows how agricultural knowledge was shared during the Green Revolution period and how farmers were encouraged to adopt better techniques.

Content Description
The collection of pamphlets, information leaflets, and research papers preserved at Jammu University is a rich source of agricultural and scientific knowledge spanning from the 1950s to the 1960s. The pamphlets, published primarily by the Directorate of Extension, Ministry of Agriculture, and related government agencies, were designed to disseminate practical information to farmers and rural communities. They cover a wide range of subjects, including crop protection, irrigation, soil conservation, animal husbandry, and the adoption of improved agricultural practices. Alongside these pamphlets are research papers from various STEM disciplines, many dating back to the 1950s, which represent the foundational academic research being referenced and taught during the formative years of higher education in Jammu and Kashmir. These papers include studies on botany, chemistry, geology, mathematics, and other fields that shaped the academic orientation of the region’s universities.
