A Taxonomical Survey of the Algal Flora of Leh (Ladakh), 1992
Scope and Contents
This thesis is the first comprehensive taxonomic survey of the algal flora in Leh (Ladakh), a remote high-altitude desert region with extreme climatic conditions. Covering diverse water bodies such as ponds, springs, streams, and snow-fed lakes, the study identified 848 algal species across nine classes, including 32 new species and 32 new varieties. The work includes taxonomic keys, detailed camera lucida illustrations, and microphotographs, along with limnological data on water chemistry and environmental conditions.
