Scope and Contents

Consists of newspaper clippings and broadsheets with articles by Rai in the Free Press Journal, Indian Express, the Sentinel etc Topics include women's rights stories such as the political representation and the proportion of female candidates contesting the Lok Sabha elections, the new chairwoman of the National Commission for Women; environmental stories such the sal borer epidemic, issues of tiger conservation such as prey depletion, the devastation caused by the flooding of Kaziranga, comments on hunting of the black buck by Salman Khan and Saif Ali Khan, and community environmental protection by the Bishnois and Jats; and interviews with Valmik Thapar and Suresh Prabhu (regarding the polluter-pays principle); developmental issues such as the criminalisation of tribes, impacts to literacy programmes, population planning policies, drought and starvation in Bolangir, Orissa; and general interest stories such as the weakening of the attar industry by synthetic perfume manufacture.
