Scope and Contents

Newspaper clippings of articles by Rai on environmental issues. Part 2 includes broadsheets and articles on national parks, habitat loss and destruction, poaching and conservation. This includes poaching prevention and illegal trade affecting tigers, wild birds, rhinos, etc.; conservation and countering habitat loss such as retreating glaciers, shrinking forest cover in Arunachal Pradesh, ecological disturbance in the Andamans and destruction of Olive Ridleys by trawlers near Bhitarkanika; habitat protection and community activism, such as an assessment of the Chipko movement, a similar movement in Tehri Garhwal, the protection of the black buck by the Mahajans, and attacks by the Jarawas; animal relocations such as that of Brindavan monkeys and the freeing of blind lions by court order, as well as new habit for Siberian cranes; human-wildlife conflicts such as elephant and wolf aggression, protection of mahouts, and grazing in protected areas; discrepancies and inefficiences in fundraising for tiger conservation by NGOs; and the impact of pollution on the Taj Mahal.
