The intellectual arrangement strives to preserve the provenance and original order of the papers. Where an original order could not be found, the Archives have applied an order, and folders within the sub-series are arranged usually in chronological or alphabetical order.

The collection has been arranged to reflect the different processes and phases of Shah's work. Most of the series does not contain any sub-series.

Series one containing correspondence has been arranged alphabetically and contains letters to Shah from friends and colleagues.

Series two contains scientific research and administration. It has been arranged chronologically. It maps Shah's foray into science and academics and her work in Theoretical Physics at IIT Bombay. Includes administrative documents from Shah's stint as an instructor at colleges in Mumbai.

Series three includes Shah's notes and notebooks which contain notes taken during conferences, personal reflections etc. It has been arranged chronologically.

Series four contains drafts and published copies of Shah's writing on various topics related to women's rights to their bodies and selves.

Series five is contains material related to Women's rights movement in India. Shah was part of various organisations and has collected publication which have bee included under sub-series 1. This includes newsletters, information booklets, reports and magazines published by women's rights organisations in India. It has been arranged chronologically.
