Raju Sharma collection

Content Description

The Raju Sharma collection consists of two textbooks on learning electronics in Hindi, a book created at CENDIT, a one page note on CENDIT’s work in Community video and two handwritten notebooks containing notes, circuit diagrams, line drawings and tables that showed how he made sense of the world of video and electronics that he was part of. Also part of the collection are 18 colour and 2 B&W photographs that emerge from his years at CENDIT. Of specific interest are a series of photographs that show moments of the 20 week training programme on Video communication that CENDIT conducted annually from 1978 to 1982.

Condition Description

The Hindi guide books are in fragile conditions with significantly torn pages. The Photographs and other books are in reasonably good condition.

Disposition

The materials offer rare documentation of early training and self learning in Audio-Visual media industry. This collection has archival value for its visual record of technical roles and training in late 1970s - 1980s in India. All items fall within the thematic scope of the project. All materials have been retained in this accession.

The Raju Sharma Collection is the personal collection of the donor either created personally or collected by in the course of his career. They were loaned to PAST grantee AMP for digitization.

Retention Rule

This collection preserves materials that document underrepresented histories of audio visual technicians and workers. It includes personal notes, diaries and photograph related to AV technology from the 1980s and 1990s. The physical materials are given to AMP (Advance Media Production) for digitising. Digital copies will be permanently housed at the Archives at NCBS, which will hold full authority to manage them in the future, as per the Loan Agreement. The grantee AMP will retain digital copies with local backup.
