Content Description

Ashoke Rawal began his career as a cameraman with Doordarshan in 1975. He worked on a wide range of assignments including the Himalayan Car Rally, VVIP visits, documentaries and short features. In 1985 he moved into independent production, setting up his own work as producer and director. For more than four decades he has produced and directed corporate films, documentaries, TV serials and docu-dramas for government, international and private clients. His projects include films for the Ministry of Home and several state boards, as well as international work for the Bhutan government.

Condition Description

This oral history interview is recorded in WAV format with a total duration of 2 hours 7 minutes and 54 seconds. While most portions are audible, the recording includes occasional instances of overlapping speech, particularly during conversational exchanges and there are some segments with presence of Background noise. The primary speaker remains largely understandable and the recording retains overall research value. The interview was made into a summary for reference.

Disposition

The recording has been retained fully as part of the oral history collection due to its significant documentation of community narratives and underrepresented voices. No materials have been removed or reassigned from this accession. Consent forms have been signed by the interviewees and handed over to AMP.

This interview was conducted and compiled by Surajit Sarkar in 2025. It was created by the PAST grantee AMP in order to document oral histories of AV technical staff from the Delhi region.

Retention Rule

This preserves the less heard voices of people involved in the Audio Visual world from 1970s to 2000. Digital files are being stored in an external Hard Disk HDD at AMP and on the google cloud. The digital files will be permanently housed at Archives at NCBS, with access governed by project policy. Copies will also be shared with the donor.
