Content Description

" This Collection of 20 notebooks, papers and photographs document the career of technician and studio manager Kailash Khati at CENDIT between 1984 and 1999 and show a history of informal training and on the job technical education on AV maintenance and usage. It includes two handwritten registers with diagrams, equipment notes, handwritten materials, and visual documentation from training and studio work. Also part of the Collection are letters, certificates, Identification cards, technical drawings and other materials . The photographs show Kailash Khati at work in outdoor settings like an underground mine and village meetings, and in indoor setting of video technology training programs.

Condition Description

The collected materials are in average condition. While the photos are in good conditions with little signs of wear and tear; the register and diary are damaged and is yellowed.

Disposition

The donation gives a glimpse of the background of a technician in the 1980s AV industry, their language and vocational training, an understanding of on-the-job learning process, and working environments for technician in early electronic Audio Video industry. All the materials received as permanent transfer from the subject are in this collection. No materials have been removed.

The new collection of photographs were gifted by Kailash Khati (subject) to the grantee (AMP) for archival reference and preservation.

Retention Rule

This collection preserves materials that document underrepresented histories of audio visual technicians and workers. It includes personal notes, diaries and photograph related to AV technology from the 1980s and 1990s. The physical materials will be transferred to AMP (Advance Media Production) and will be held by them. Digital copies will be permanently housed at the Archives at NCBS, which will hold full authority to manage them in the future, as per the Deed of Gift. The grantee AMP will retain digital copies with local backup.
