Content Description

The accession consists of material of Daniel Ankaipagar. He was an former mechanic employed at MPSM from 1964 to 1989. The material consists of 3 black and white photographs and his daily working diary from year 1964 to 1970.

Condition Description

The condition of the photographs is good, except some folds and tear edges. The diary is not is good condition as it put together with glue and paper tapes, discoloration, foxing and mold is observed on pages.

Disposition

This set comprises two black-and-white photographs and documentation of a Halco-Minner bore well drilling machine, marking key moments in MPSM’s early technological journey. The second photographs capture a visit by Mahindra and other automobile company officials to witness the first successful diesel-to-petrol engine conversion by Joseph Kaufman, highlighting MPSM’s innovation. The German-imported Halco-Minner machine, trialed by Coughman, represents an early adoption of modern water infrastructure tools in the region. These items reflect MPSM’s pioneering role in engineering development and its engagement with national industry stakeholders, offering valuable insight into technological progress in rural India. These materials will be included in new MPSM Papers Collection.
