MS Swaminathan Papers - Accession II
Content Description
The accession is composed primarily of photographs of MS Swaminathan. Some photographs have been bound together into albums, usually organised by event or organisation, such as an album for the 50th anniversary of the German Leprosy and Relief Association (GLRA), and albums for events at International Life and Food Association (ILFA), Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR), The Hunger Project, the ITTO Workshop of 1993 etc. There are also albums dedicated to Swaminathan’s photographs with world leaders, and to his visits to different countries. Besides this, there are a number of loose photographs from events and international conferences, some personal photographs, photographs with Indian ministers and various dignitaries, and photos from MSSRF including programs, projects like Every Village a Knowledge Centre, Information villages, and the foundation building. An important part of the accession are several photographs from the Green Revolution; these include photographs of Swaminathan on field visits, photographs of various varieties of wheat and yield, photographs with Norman E. Borlaug during his visit, and with Indira Gandhi at various milestone events of the Green Revolution, including the release of the stamp commemorating it. These photographs are primarily from 1967-1968. The accession also contains some photographs of Swaminathan’s father, M.K. Sambasivan, one of which is dated to 1933. Apart from photographs, the accession also contains some letters accompanying the photographs, citations in Chinese and Japanese addressed to Swaminathan, and a farewell book for Swaminathan with messages in various languages like Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Urdu, Hindi and English, from ICAR in 1979.
