B C Choudhury Papers

Content Description

The accession consists of papers belonging to B C Choudhury, a wildlife biologist, herpetologist, and conservationist. He was associated with the Wildlife Institute of India for over 30 years and has worked in wildlife management and conservation of Indian Cranes, Sea Turtles, and Crocodilians. The papers contain Choudhury's correspondence, newsletters on ecology and wildlife, drafts of research papers, research references, and reprints of research work. It also includes rare books on wildlife, media clippings, and publications on ecology and conservation in India.

All material processed as a new collection, MS-042 (B C Choudhury Papers). All received material is retained for the collection, except for duplicates.

Provenance

The collection was packed and sent from Choudhury's residence in Dehradun with the help of Ajith Kumar and Rohit Jha. It was received at the Archives by Ravi KB on 19 January 2024.

Retention Rule

The B C Choudhury Papers fit under the scope of the Archives at NCBS as part of the history of contemporary wildlife biology in India through its focus on herpetology and pedagogy of wildlife sciences in India. The archives shall have full authority to handle the material in the future.
