S R Nayak

Content Description

The S R Nayak collection consists of visiting cards received by Salim Ali. There are almost 235 visiting cards. They include visiting cards of artists, forest conservators, researchers, publishing houses, professors, government officials, etc. These cards were to be discarded by Salim Ali, who handed it over to Nayak who was working on a project with Salim Ali in 1987. S R Nayak is an artist and photographer from Mumbai, Maharashtra. He is also a photographer of plants and trees. He worked with Salim Ali on a project as a project assosciate in the 1980s. It is during this time that S R Nayak collected a bunch of visiting cards of Salim Ali that he was throwing away.

The visiting cards received by Salim Ali were to be discarded by Ali, who handed them over to S R Nayak, who was working with Salim Ali on a project in 1987. Nayak took them along with him when he retired in 2002. It was given to Anjali J R, archivist at the Archives at NCBS, on 31 March 2023 at his residence in Tata Nagar.

Salim Ali has annotated on some of these visiting cards which help us contextualise and also understand the networks of people in the field of Conservation and Ecology.
